October 26, 2009Following Health Canada ‘s approval of the H1N1 flu virus vaccine, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has announced the launch of phase two of Ontario’s three-phase flu vaccine plan.

The H1N1 flu virus vaccine will be made available across the province beginning October 26. Ontario ‘s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Arlene King, is encouraging Ontarians to be vaccinated against H1N1 flu virus, starting with:

  • People 65 and under with chronic conditions;
  • Pregnant women;
  • Healthy children 6 months to under five years of age;
  • People living in remote or isolated communities;
  • Health care workers; and
  • Household contacts and care providers of persons at high risk who cannot be immunized or may not respond to vaccine.
OPS Workplace Flu Shot Clinics
To help employees make immunization plans, I want to let you know about OPS plans for workplace flu shot clinics.The OPS will not be offering H1N1 flu workplace vaccination clinics.  Those at greater risk of serious illness from H1N1 flu virus are encouraged to seek medical advice and receive the vaccine as early as possible consistent with Ontario ‘s priority sequencing approach.  Contact your local Public Health Unit  for more information about clinics in your area. If you have health-related questions, contact Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 (TTY: 1-866-797-0007). OPS workplace seasonal flu shot clinics are planned for December/January.  Information on dates and locations will be made available shortly.

Going Forward
